I wanted to try all kinds, so I ordered the chili crab + pepper crab set. All menus are delicious and the portions are really generous. And all the staff are very friendly. I usually don't write reviews, but I have such great memories that I'm leaving a review. 🙂
I visited Newton Hawker Center because it is particularly famous for seafood.I ordered pepper crap and sambal stingray and they were delicious! There was not much meat in the pepper crab, but it was okay since it was cheap. The spicy pepper sauce was delicious. The starter stingray was meaty and the spicy and sweet sauce was delicious. The owner and staff were friendly and I had a comfortable meal.
The bbq stingray was amazing! It was a bit expensive but was very well cooked and tender, sambal sauce on top was spicy and went really well with stingray. The pink stuff on the side and lime really helps to elevate the flavour.
Our go-to stall for BBQ stingray at Newton Hawker Centre. Consistent quality. Very juicy stingray each time. Their sambal sotong (squid) is very good too. So is the fried baby squid. We also enjoy other dishes from this stall such as chilli lala with chilli crab sauce which is great for dipping stuff into. The hawkers here provide great service and are very friendly too!Recommended!
$60 for crab and stingray. Mentioned that crab is about 800g. Not huge.Taste of crab so so only. 6/10Taste of stingray, 7/10. ($18 medium portion)Tried the stingray a few times already. Normally is cooked perfectly. However this time is slightly over cooked as the meat it’s tough.
By some stroke of luck I randomly tried the Sambal BBQ Stingray (small, enough for 2 to share with rice) from Heng Heng BBQ and have always gone back since. The stingray is fresh and plump but the winner here is the sambal. Spicy in a very good way and at the same time adding flavour to the stingray. Pair it with the chinchalok provided and you’ve got yourself an addictive ticket.Do follow me on Instagram @littlemissramensg for more food reviews!
While not the cheapest meal I had at Singapore, it was worth every dollar. The stingray, chili crab, and dumplings were all worth getting as they were highly flavorful. Furthermore, the person who served was highly friendly in terms of providing recommendations and letting us know what to expect. So order a few dishes, take advantage of the plastic gloves and go to town.
